Premarital /Commitment Counseling
Couples therapy is not just for problems. For new couples, starting out on solid footing is so important. The overarching goal of premarital/commitment counseling is the creation of a kind of couple scaffolding for your partnership, one that will continue to support you as you go through life together.
We start by identifying your core values for your relationship. Then you choose from a list of topics you might want to explore together—broad topics like money, sex, in-laws, children, communication, handling conflicts, work-life balance, to name a few. Sessions thereafter are structured around what you’ve chosen to focus on.
While the duration and depth of premarital work depends on how much ground you want to cover, it typically consists of somewhere between 6-10 structured sessions. Our work also includes thoughtfully curated recommendations for articles, podcasts and books to support you in your life path together.
Benefits of Premarital/Commitment counseling include:
· Deepened sense of connection to one another
· Improved capacity to handle life transitions and challenges as a team
· Improved communication/conflict-resolution skills
· More understanding of your partner—the ways in which you are alike, the ways in which you are different, and how that’s a good thing even when it’s hard.
